Studies & Training
Josien Suntjens (30) has done her Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in Dharamsala in India, with the organization YogaLife. She followed her Ashtanga Yoga training with Saraswathi Jois in Mysore, India at the Shri K Pattabhi Jois Institute. Her classes are also inspired by a Thai Massage training, which she did in Chiang Mai, Thailand at the Baan Hom Samunphrai Institute and several Vipassana Meditation retreats. Josien is also certified Mindfulness trainer. She studied at the Centre for Mindfulness in Amsterdam.
How did she start?
Josien started her yoga teacher training in India to develop herself; personal development is on top of her list. That she would ever start teaching she had never imagined. It all started in India after her training when she was asked to give yoga lessons to the Tibetan refugees, which was so incredibly special! She gave classes in Thailand, Mongolia, Spain, and once back in the Netherlands, she started with Living Room Yoga.
Josien has her Master in International Business and has worked many years in Amsterdam and abroad in Sales Management, as an English teacher and in Micro Finance. To keep up with her dynamic life she started to practice yoga. As Josien found out how yoga can help her to find her balance she went to India to follow several yoga courses.
Josien realized how special it is to transfer this knowledge and to show that yoga can help you to find your balance. Prejudices about yoga such as the need to be flexible or the hippy atmosphere can be taken away easily. Yoga can help you to cope with stress in your daily life, regardless what work you do.
Livingroom Yoga
This is where Living Room Yoga stands for; an open and accessible way to get to know yoga and how it can help you find your balance, be more efficient and learn to let go.
Josien gives Hatha Yoga on a weekly base and the 8 weeks MBSR Mindfulness Training a multiple times per year at Fysio Amsterdam West, close to the World Fashion Centre. She is full of inspiration and has a positive flow. If you do what you like, follow your heart, then the rest will follow, she has experienced it herself!
Other teachers at Livingroom Yoga
Ana (39) teaches at Livingroom Yoga when Josien is teaching Yoga at Safaris retreats in Africa. Ana has completed her Yoga Teacher Training at Yogaschool Noord in Amsterdam and teaches in-company yoga. Her yoga classes are based on Vinyasa and Hatha yoga with plenty of opportunities for the students to go inwards. Ana meditates on a daily base and also integrates different meditation techniques in her classes.
Ana works since 20 years as a journalist and has experienced physical work related injuries. This inspired her to do yoga and she stimulates her students to work not only with the body but also with the mind. Yoga is not about performance but to be aware of your body and mind, including the physical limitations and discover how yoga can help you to keep on moving. Her motto is coming from the Roman philosopher Heraclitus: “Panta Rhei”, which means every moves, everything is always in movement.
Yoga teacher Niels Koningen, Yoga with a big smile! Positive and energetic, en enjoying life even more since I am doing yoga since 5 years. I started yoga being somewhat sceptic, however after that first shavasana, I wanted to learn more. After practising yoga for quite some and working in an addiction clinic, I started the Yoga Teacher training. It has brought so much more depth and connection in my life. I welcome everyone in my class to observe and develop yourself, also yoga sceptics are welcome!
